The Final Duty

In the final moments of Nandielath Govinda Menon (Govindamman) — the Oracle whose unfailing word never faltered — a great crisis arose. His soul longed to depart, yet lingered within his body. Days passed, but still his spirit hesitated.

The reason was profound: as the sole Oracle marked by Devi’s Vasuri Mudra, he had no one to whom he could pass on (kaimaaral) the sacred belongings — the Sword (Vaal) and the Anklets (Chilambu). Without fulfilling this last duty, his soul refused to leave.

The Panicker’s Counsel

In their distress, the family sought guidance from a wise Panicker. He instructed them to take paddy (nellu) and sacred Tulsi leaves, circle Govindamman’s body (uzhinjittu), and cast them away. Wherever these fell, he said, Govindamman’s spiritual presence would reside eternally.

The family obeyed with reverence.

The Birth of the Shrine

At the very place where the Tulsi and paddy came to rest, the family established a shrine (prathishta) for Govindamman. There, they continue the vacharadhana and pooja, preserving his memory and presence for generations.

Having fulfilled his last duty through the grace of Devi, Govindamman’s soul peacefully merged with the Divine Mother.

അവസാനത്തെ കടമ

ദേവിയുടെ സത്യം പിഴക്കാത്ത അവസാനത്തെ വെളിച്ചപ്പാടായ നന്ദിയേലത്ത് ഗോവിന്ദമേനോന്റെ (ഗോവിന്ദമ്മാമന്റെ) അന്ത്യനിമിഷങ്ങളിൽ ഒരു വലിയ പ്രതിസന്ധി ഉടലെടുത്തു. ദേവിയുടെ വസൂരിമുദ്രയേറ്റ ഏക വെളിച്ചപ്പാടായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പവിത്രമായ ആചാരവസ്തുക്കളായ വാളും ചിലമ്പും കൈമാറാൻ മറ്റൊരു വെളിച്ചപ്പാട് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. ഈ ദിവ്യവാഹക ചുമതല കൈമാറാതെ പോകാൻ വിസമ്മതിച്ച്, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രാണൻ ശരീരത്തെ വിട്ടുപോരാൻ കൂട്ടാക്കാതെ ദിവസങ്ങൾ കടന്നുപോയി.

പണിക്കരുടെ പരിഹാരം

ഒടുവിൽ, വിഷാദത്തിലായ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾ ഒരു പണിക്കരുടെ (പണ്ഡിതൻ/കർമ്മി) സഹായം തേടി. പണിക്കർ അവരെ ഇങ്ങനെ ഉപദേശിച്ചു: കുറച്ച് നെല്ലും തുളസിയും എടുത്ത് ഗോവിന്ദമ്മാമന്റെ ശരീരത്തിനു ചുറ്റും "ഉഴിഞ്ഞിട്ട് എറിഞ്ഞ് കളയുക".

കുടുംബം നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചതുപോലെ ചെയ്തു. ആ പവിത്രമായ തുളസിയും നെല്ലും എവിടെയാണോ ചെന്ന് വീണത്, അവിടെ ഗോവിന്ദമ്മാമന്റെ ആത്മീയസാന്നിധ്യം എക്കാലത്തും നിലനിൽക്കുമെന്ന് കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾ ഉറച്ചു വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുടെ പിറവി

അങ്ങനെ, തുളസിയും നെല്ലും വീണ ആ പവിത്രമായ സ്ഥാനത്ത് ഗോവിന്ദമ്മാമന്റെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഇവിടെയാണ് പിന്നീട് 'വാഴ്ചാരാധനയും പൂജയും' നടത്തിപ്പോരുന്നത്.

തൻ്റെ ആത്മീയ ദൗത്യം പൂർത്തിയാക്കി, ഭഗവതിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹവുമായി, ഗോവിന്ദമ്മാമന്റെ ആത്മാവ് ശാന്തമായി ദേവിയിലേക്ക് ലയിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹപ്രകാരം കൈമാറ്റം ചെയ്യപ്പെടാതിരുന്ന വാളും ചിലമ്പും ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള പവിത്രവസ്തുക്കളും, ആ നന്ദിയേലത്ത് തറവാട്ടിലെ ഈ സ്ഥാനത്ത് ഇന്നും ദൈവീകസ്മരണയുടെ ഭാഗമായി നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു.
